Lessons in Leaving

by kevinkingauthorPosted on March 13, 2024October 26, 2024

(1 of 1. Originally posted on March 08, 2024 for the prompt “Lessons in Leaving.”)

I hate to leave you again. But I have to go. I draw it out as long as I can, savoring every last moment with you.

You had to know it was coming. It’s a pattern for us. We’ve gone through this charade so many times before. We both know how it ends.

I love you. I would stay with you forever, if I could. But the world is calling and I must answer. I promise you will see me again. I will think of you constantly until my return.

You must know there is another who comforts me when I can’t be with you. But it is a poor substitute, driven by desperation. Because although I yearn for your warm embrace, dear bed, I have a date with coffee this morning.
